This project includes an augmented reality experience designed to support the interpretation of the Domus de Janas of Musellos. The AR component works in close connection with this website, allowing users to explore the site through both physical presence and digital access. The experience is intended to be intuitive, lightweight, and accessible, enhancing observation rather than replacing it.

How the Augmented Reality Experience Works
The augmented reality experience is based on a set of visual markers placed within the necropolis area. When a marker is recognized through a mobile device, digital contents appear on the screen, including images, audio narration, and interactive elements. Each marker corresponds to a specific theme, such as architecture, symbols, landscape, or chronology. Together, these thematic scenes form a structured narrative that guides the user through different aspects of the site.
On-site Exploration
The AR experience is primarily designed for on-site use at the Musellos necropolis. By scanning the markers in their original context, visitors can access additional layers of information while remaining physically present in the landscape. This approach encourages slow observation and spatial awareness, allowing users to connect digital content with the material environment.
Off-site Access and the Role of the Website
The website complements the on-site experience by providing access to the same thematic contents in a digital format. Users who are unable to visit the site in person can explore the project remotely, while on-site visitors can deepen their understanding through linked web pages. In this way, the project supports both physical and remote engagement with cultural heritage.
Interaction and User Experience
Interaction within the AR experience is intentionally simple. Users can activate audio narration, access related web pages, and move freely between different markers. This design choice reduces cognitive load and ensures that technology remains a tool for interpretation rather than a distraction from the site itself.
Augmented Reality as an Interpretive Tool
Rather than reconstructing the past in a realistic or speculative way, the AR experience focuses on interpretation and explanation. Visual elements are used to highlight spatial relationships, architectural features, and symbolic aspects, supporting a critical and reflective engagement with the site. The goal is not to recreate the Domus de Janas as they once were, but to provide meaningful insights into their structure, use, and cultural significance.
Integration with the Project Structure
Each AR marker is directly linked to a corresponding page on this website. This connection ensures continuity between the physical experience and the digital contents, allowing users to move seamlessly between augmented reality and in-depth information. The AR experience and the website should therefore be understood as two complementary components of the same interpretive system.
